Do you know what people do on their vacations?

I work with someone who recently took a week off for vacation. A couple of days into it, someone at the office asked if anyone knew what this guy was doing on his vacation. We've got 7 other people in the office and it turned out no one knew. I figure if anyone had asked him, he would happily have told them. But no one did. On the other hand, he didn't offer the information himself. Which got me to thinking: I know I figured that if he wanted to tell me, he certainly could have; but he might have been thinking that if anyone wanted to know, they could certainly have asked him. So where does the "burden" lie in this case, with the one taking the vacation or the co-workers/friends?
