I eat alot of Granola Bars, and I used to buy boxes of premade ones from the store. About a year ago I realized that they were a waste of money. I started making my own because I can control the quality of the ingrediants and only use ingrediants that I like. I have made many different varieties. My favorite, so far, has been oats, crisped rice, dried pineapple, coconut flakes, dried bananas, pecans, and honey. Has anyone else tried to make their own? What kind do you make?

That sounds like a good idea. Do you have to toast or cook the granola, or do you simply mix the ingredients and eat? I would think that mixing in honey and making your own bars would be fantastic!

I mix everything, and then I pack everything down in a deep cookie sheet. You have to pack it down really tight. Then I bake it in the oven for about 20 minutes. When I am done baking, I let them cool completely. Once they're cool, I cut them into bars. They can be stored in plastic bags, containers, or wrap. You can seriously use anything you want. I have tried all kinds of cereals, chocolate chips, dried fruits, nuts, syrup, instant coffee, cocoa powder, jellies, etc.

I will definitely have to try that sometime. I love granola, and yes they do charge too much for it in the store. Thanks for the response!

They do charge alot in the store. The ingrediants do add up to make a batch, but I usually get around 30 bars from one batch.

I wish I could find a good recipe for making these. My daughter is on a high protein diet and 1 of the foods that is good for that is granola. I can't seem to figure out a way to make these that she'll like eating them though. I need to spend some time looking for a recipe that works and would taste good for a kid LOL

you could try making it with mostly nuts. Mix up some almonds, pecans, peanuts, cashews, or whatever other nut she likes! You can try to add some dried fruit to add a little bit of sweetness.
