How do you handle chain (email) letters?

I receive tons of email messages every day. Some work related, some poems, stories, pictures, and really good stuff. Often the kind that after reading you feel inspired, lighthearted... the kind that puts a smile on your face. I'm sure you know what I'm saying. What bothers me is when after reading a very good looong story, at the end of the message there is some kind of a threat. That if I don't send that message to other people in the next few minutes, something bad might happen to me or my family. Well, there are other senders who state it positively, like a surprise will come my way in the next hour if i distribute the message immediately. They even give a deadline and the required number of friends that I have to send it to. What do you do with these types of messages? Do you distribute them as requested by the sender? Me, if the message is really good and i think my friends would like it as I did, I send them a copy but I delete the threat or wish part at the end. :) Tell me what you think.

I do not open them, I delete them right away, even if they are from someone I know. Therefore I never forward them or distribute them to my friends and family. there is just too much maleware and virus attached. I would not risk passing that on

Oh, can a virus be attached to an email? I thought I could get it only if I open email attachments. Anyway, I forgot about that possibility. You are right, we should be careful. We would not want to cause another "love virus", right? Haha. Thanks. :)

If it is sent by my friends, I would open and read them just for fun, but very rarely would I distribute to the following chains. However, I might send them to some of my friends if I really think the mails are meaningful and informative.
