Man Cheats on Wife While Under Influence of Ambien

I just saw this on Dear Prudence. Evidently this man mistakenly took Ambien and thought he slept all day when in reality he did lots of chores and ran an errand which included cheating on his wife! I know Ambien can cause memory loss because my soon to be ex-husband took it when he was feeling stressed (which was an off the label use of the medication) and then would remember nothing about the day in which he took the medication. Do you think that the man really remembers nothing about what happened or is he using the medication as an excuse? Would you take a medication that caused that kind of amnesia? It didn't seem to bother by ex-husband but the scenarios like this that could arise from taking the medication did bother me a bit and I did wonder about it a bit after he left.
