I have seen many times and talk to self confess EMO or fans of EMO bands, styles, groups and represents by majority of young people following latest trends and fads. I think that I could be EMO when I feel easily hurt and depress due to events that makes me sad. Such, as the loss of loved ones, break-up, sickness, seeing others people suffers terrible death, sickness, wars, orphan children and loss of battles and lives unmeaningful. But, I observe that many youngsters declared being EMO and they carry it to the way they talk, dress or deals with people. Some wears all blacks clothes, amulets, make-up with heavy black eyeliner and a huge fan of EMO band. Do you agree that to be called EMO, must be reflected on outer appearance or we could be called EMO, even we kept the feelings inside ourselves?

Yeah, being an emo do need a lot of reorganization to be made on the body and to the personality of the person it is reflective and always have a freedom of expression to with hold. thus, to be an emo could be done internally and not just externally.

I think that it more of how we act and think vs our appearance.. There are plenty of "scene kids"... those who look "emo" and yet are happier than a box of yellow crayons.... lol

Yeah, that's true. I saw many so-called EMOS who were comfortable to live and act like any normal person. They do not embrace the EMO fashion and refrain from following the trends whom mostly visible in people to be called EMO , one must follow thier styles.Anybody could be called EMO, and they kept their feelings of aloofness. They are able to continue their life without forcing them to imitate EMO fashion, just to belong. They are free to express their selves as long as they don't make any harm to their self and to the other people.
