What changes will my dog go through after being neutered?

My 3 year old chihuahua was neutered last week. I did it primarily to stop him from "marking" in the house. I have a 9 year old poodle who has been fixed. When my poodle relieves himself, he squats like a girl dog. My chihuahua, however, still hikes his leg to go to the bathroom. He is still extremely playful, too. I thought he would be calmer, or lazy, and that he would not hike and relieve himself on things. What changes should I expect to see, and when will I see the changes? It hasn't been immediate....so will he change at all?

A dog that gets neutered will eventually have some sort of change. Although it all depends on the dog i what changes they go through. I had my male papillon neutered about 5 weeks ago. He started to change about 3-4 weeks after the surgery. He has become more cuddly and has packed on weight. We had him neutered due to problems with his prostate. Just be patient and the changes will be subtle.

Thank you for your response! It is good to know that the changes will come. I thought I had put him through all of this for nothing (other than not being able to breed him). I just wanted him to stop marking. I hope this works.

My male Jack Russell Terrier/Beagle mix got neutered about 7 weeks ago. He's turning 9 this summer so he's certainly on the older end of getting neutered. Being part JRT he was a hyper dog. When I'd take him to the dog park his nose was always attached to another dog's bottom. When going for a car ride he always wanted a windo open and would never sleep in the car. No he is calmer. When we go to the dog park he still sniffs behinds but his nose isn't attached like it used to be. He still wants a window open in the car but he'll lay down and sleep. He also seems to be more obedient but I'm not exactly sure if that'd related to his neutering. LOL

Sounds like being neutered was a good thing for your dog. Both of my dogs sniff behinds, too. But they don't see many other animals besides each other, so they pretty much know what each other smells like. LOL Thanks for your response.
