Are you worried?!?

I turn on the television this morning and hear the sad news of a 23 month old toddler passing due to the recent swine flu. In the US we have had a few cases but no deaths due to the this flu, up until now. I can't help but worry now that this could be the next big thing. The government is talking about shutting down schools that have known confirmed cases, as well as other public functions and have even asked some local restaurants to not do carry out. They want to reassure us that they are doing all that they can at this time but to me it doesn't keep me from worrying and wondering when it will hit my area. I was reading yesterday that they are working as hard and as fast as they can do come up with some type of vaccine for this but it wouldn't be out for several more months. To me this is even scarier news, with the flu spreading worldwide at such a rapid pace and no vaccine within reach right now what is going to stop this from affecting me or my child? They have noted that in Mexico even the healthiest young people are dying from this. Something that still puzzles many because most average young person can "shake off" the flu. How do you feel about this flu and what precautions are you taking to keep from getting it? I'm sure they don't want us to go into a worldwide panic but if the swine flu has already caused many deaths and is moving into countries and states at such a rapid pace how do we not?

I am actually from the Philippines and we still have no reported cases here of the swine flu. However, some of my family and friends are currently residing abroad. And I am really worried about them. Well, I haven't actually taken a precaution yet but what I will do is to avoid physical contact with strangers(or neighbors, for that matter) and wearing masks when going to a public place. P.S. I hope that you and your child would be safe in your area and that this spreading swine flu virus would stop and disappear. Take care! :3

Thank You! I hope that it doesn't move to your country!!! I know here we haven't taken precautions such as masks and avoidances of people because we have no confirmed cases here yet, but once something comes out I will definately take my precautios. I hope that someone, somewhere can put a bit of a stop to it so it doesn't turn out into a worldwide pandemic.

it is alarming.. that is true. I believe we all should be careful with all the happenings. we should worry for our families... and for ourselves no more than being paranoid, of course. just have to try our best to make sure we dont get the flu ourselves...

Thanks for your response! It is very alarming like you said. I guess the best thing right now is to wait and see what they say and how bad it gets. I've been doing a lot of reading on it and responding to someone else's discussion about this. Researchers aren't even sure if its the swine flu, but a possible mix. I don't know, only time will tell I guess.
