Why do black people call the nape of their neck at "kitchen"?

I know that is a strange topic but my MOTHER wants to know this. She works with some black women and they refer to the back of their necks as KITCHENS. Mother asked them why and even the women didnt know why. They said their mothers always said that and they say it too. So can someone please answer this for me. This is not meant to offend anyone but my mother really wants to know this.

i have never heard this. have blavk friends, had a black hairdresser that worked w/me at my beauty shop & i never have heard it referred to that way. may be something new that has come out since i worked w/my friend. anxious to see the answers u get. greetings from tennessee.

my godmother is part black,i've never heard her say that. it must be a regionalism.
