How long did you keep your child in a safety seat? My 7 year old is quite tall but since she still fits comfortably in her booster seat I don't see any reason to not have her in it. Her booster has a nice feature of a detachable back, so you can have it as just the bottom of the seat (with arms) or let it have the back which has wings. I like to keep the back on so that when she falls asleep on a trip her head can rest on the left or right wings and not get all cramped.

I think I kept my oldest son in his until he was 9 years old. He appeared to fit in it with no problems even though he was on the tall side for his age, so we (my husband and I) used it until he couldn't fit comfortably in it anymore. My youngest son, who is soon to be 9 himself, is still using a car seat, but he is so small for his age, he has no choice but to.

that sounds like a long time - but like you said - if it fits them, it really does no harm, why not use it.

my oldest was 5 when i took him out of it my middles son was 4 , my youngest son is 3 but he still sits in it because he is so small , the law here sucks because it says you have to sit in one until you are 4 foot 11 which is crazy because i know alot of adults that are only 4 foot 10 , my daughter is only going to be 1 next sunday so she will be in a car seat for a while but i take mine out as soon as i feel they are to tall for it or to heavy.

You know, I wonder if they make the laws due to the lobbying of the child seat makers... you have to keep buying more and more. I know I have an adult cousin who is just over 4.10 and below 4.11.

I am a father of 2 little girls.. my oldest is only 2 years old.. but thinking ahead when my daughter turns about the age of yours.. 7 or so.. on long trips i would probly have the back with wings for the sleeping confort as your suggested earlier.. but otherwise if she is over about 50-60 lbs.. it is Legaly safe in Texas to not have them i one.. i'll probly wait till 65-70 lbs.. just so i feel safe.. for the most part i am a new dad and as i have learned.... most of taking care of your children come from pure instinct.
