A Problem with No Problem

When did the phrase "No problem" become an acceptable reply to "Thank you"? I'm hearing this more and more each day, especially in the service industry. For example, if I thank a waitress for bringing me a glass of water and she was to say, "No problem", it puts me off. Of course it's not a problem. It's her job. She doesn't have to reassure me. The fact that there might be a possibility of a problem somehow exists when there shouldn't be any doubt at all. What ever happened to "You're welcome"? No problem? No. Problem.
