Hi myLotters! I have come to know that MyLot people came from many countries in the world. My question is do you know any unique or unusual customs that only happen in your country? In my country Indonesia, in the island of Java, there is a unique migration tradition that happens during the Moslem's big holiday where people went to the small cities in the island and cause traffic all the way from the capital city Jakarta which located in west side of the island to the east side of the island. This tradition also becomes a national coverage every year and authorities have to do extra work to make sure that it ran safely. FYI, the area of Java Island itself is approx. 138,794km2/53,589 sq miles and no 13th on lists of largest islands in the world (info from Wikipedia).

Some old traditional I know here in the Philippines, is when we went into the woods. we have to eat a piece of grass or leaf, so as we leave the souls on the woods will not go with us. and to the old folks, babies shouldnt be complimented cute without putting a saliva on their tummy or else theyll be crying the whole day.

Here in the outlying villages they still hold very old festivals, during the day the cattle are driven through fire then people also run barefoot through the fire. Later in the evening the young girls of the village, that have not yet known a man, dance naked and then a man who is also naked but wearing a deer's head and a huge phallus dances and chooses one of the girls. She is the queen of the festival and it is a great honour for her. The man with the deer's head, known as Keranonath, mounts the girl as she kneels before him. If their union is blessed with child that offspring is considered special all the best urbanj

There are some superstitious people living in my home country. Like the day Friday 13th is meant to be very unlucky. This year we have had two of those already. Living in a house number 13 is something many people wouldn't do. Where I used to live the numbers on the cottages went 11, 12, 14 and so on. If salt is spilled a person throws some over their left shoulder to avoid getting sorrow. Some people don't walk under a ladder or put an umbrella up indoors. Seeing a black cat is meant to be lucky. I really like finding out about customs in different countries.

Yes, for some reason superstitious have become a custom in some countries. It's been down to generation after another. I guess the number 13 is not only unlucky number in your country but also other countries in the world. And the spilled salt; forbid to walk under a ladder and open up umbrella indoors; all are really interesting. Thanks for sharing!

There's so many weird custom in my country India since it have varieties of people living in its different states. In our state, we have this particular custom. Whenever someone returns from a long journey, they lid fire in newspaper or any paper and make that person walk pass over it. The fire supposedly keep away any evil spirits that come along with the person. No matter how modern the family is, they all follow this routine. Its quite hilarious sometimes, coming back for semester break and finding mom waiting in the doorway with burning newspaper.. lol
