How does it work with google adwords?

Okay, I recently signed up with bukisa and another paid to write networks. I need to publicize my articles to attract more viewers. I been followed some good advise from many onliners here. One suggestion is that I try to use google adwords. So, how does it work? I register with adwords, would they automatically generate the tag words or keywords from my articles and advertise it? Do I need to pay for the service of adwords?
