Howdy srirambond007!... The Ubuntu Alternate Installer has no Graphic User Interface (GUI). Has more advance and advantage setups than in normal Ubuntu Installer. Advance setups like on the volume or partition setups that you can make or have more secure by using encryption. Ubuntu Alternate Installer is also good for installing on multiple computers simultaneously through Network Boot installations. Thanks and Enjoy!... myLot!...

Some computers have a problem with the graphics on the live disc. They will do fine after Ubuntu is installed, but because of a driver issue or whatever, the live CD doesn't work well for them. That is the case where the text based alternate install CD comes in. So, if you can boot into the live cd and have no problems, there is no reason for you to install with the Alternate Install CD.
