Another Idea- Still Trying To Bust Brain Cells

I'm sure many of us have chosen to receive notifications via email to let us know when someone on our friends list has started a new discussion, I know I have. Well, I also receive the MyLot Digest every day too, but I'm sorry to say, I don't use it. Why? Because I never know if I have already replied to a discussion that is listed in it. If only there was a way that I could know if I had already replied to a discussion, any and all discussions not just the Digests. How good would that be? It would avoid frustrations of doubling up on responses because you would already know you have responded to that discussion. Idea! A tick! A big one in a bright, bold easily seen colour that signifies you have already responded to that particular discussion! And to make it easier for the MyLot crew, it only has to be when you click on the link to respond to discussion that you see it, you know, once the page comes up with the box to respond in. Yes, it took some time to think this through enough for it to sound plausible. I wonder if they will consider it for the next upgrade? Opinions on such matters are always greatly appreciated, so please, add yours!

I always know if I have answered the discussion before. Every time I read and answer a discussion, I rate the discussion. If I come to a discussion I have already rated, I know I've answered it.

I guess I have a different system. If I get a notification, it has to be someone on my friend list. And I only answer a friend's discussion through a notification. That way I always know I have not responded to it yet. You've got five little ones and that is a heck of a good reason to be short on memory. I've got NO excuse!

I always rate the discussions I respond to as well, but when you are responding through a notification, there is no current way to see if you have already responded to that discussion in the past. Having some loose wiring in my brain at the moment, and my memory constantly being wiped by 5 little monsters, I can't remember every single discussion I have replied to, which is why i thought it would be a good idea to have something in the 'response' box area that would indicate if you have already responded or not. I used to float around, following link after link, during times of house boredom just randomly reading and responding to discussions. I pretty soon had to stop that, because I found I was then receiving the notifications in my email and wasn't sure if i had responded or not. I'd also like to use the MyLot Digest, but I can't because I have no way of knowing if I have already responded to the discussions that sends me. it is a peril of having so many people on my friends list, and lets face it, memory is something us mere humans are a little bit short of. What a shame we can't just get a chip to upgrade! lol.

But how do you remember all the people on your friends list? LOL. Or do you only respond to the email notifications and not use discussions from the Digest, which is what I do now. Yes, 5 kids certainly does mean less memory. it took all my available memory to get my daughter's pets project finished tonight! lol. Another late night for her, but it looks good.

Well, for me, to know whether I had already responded to a discussion, you can check under the "responded" tab under discussions. It's on the same tab line where you can find "Today's Top", "My interest". "Responded" is the 6th tab from the left. From there, you can see all the discussions you had responded to.

That would be good for when you are surfing around mylot, but not if you are responding to the email notifications. I thought having something simple that showed you had responded to a discussion might mean people like me (who can't remember everything) would know if they had already responded to that discussion and would be able to use their Mylot Digest a little easier.

Oh, I guess you can write an e-mail to myLot admin about your suggestion. If not, another way is to screen through all the responses to see if you have replied the discussion, if you are interested in the topic.

Would they even listen if I did email my suggestion to them? LOL. Probably not, until someone else mentioned it. Maybe a petition would help! lol I'm thinking I'll hold onto the digests for now, and when i get bored, I'll go through them and investigate the discussions there to see if I have already responded to them.

I think, that's a good idea. It would definitely make things easier. Like it does in other forums when the color changes after we vote and stuffs like that. We can always look back to discussions I have replied to rating but I think the color change is the best option. so, I totally endorse your views.

Thanks mimpi, I just don't like not being able to know when I have or haven't already responded to a discussion. And, I am the kind of person who is going to think up ways to get around the little hiccups we come across here.

I find that when I read the first few words of a post, I know if I've read it beforehand. It follows, that if I've read it, I did one of two things...I either responded to it or I ignored it. So if it's in the digest and I've already seen it I ignore it. There are other posts in the digest that are not from my friends and there's always the possibility of making a response (doesn't happen often) and even maybe making a new friend.

I find it doesn't take long to skim the digest. If my friends have discussions there I've already seen them in my email notifications. Honestly, with all you have on your plate, I'm surprised you are even sane enough to get on the computer and read more than a few sentences. I take my hat off to you.

I suppose then I could do my research of the discussions coming through the Digest, but wouldn't that take hours? LOL. Remember, the mylot time I do get is shared with other sites and 6 other humans! LOL. My memory is normally pretty good, but when you read discussions that are so similar all the time, the memory does start to play tricks! For example, I could have sworn I responded to your response earlier, but I hadn't, I'd read it and responded to one further up instead! LOL. Lucky I double checked!
