Makes Me Laugh Out Loud: Where Did My Earning Go?

It really makes me laugh when I see people asking why they lost earnings and I see their star value is only 3 or 4. Now I don't mean to slam people with low star values, only those that wonder why they lose earnings. Most of these people don't bother to read the guidelines for starting discussions and responses. I would say that the answer for these people would be to not join into topics because they get angry at the topic. You will just get a firefight going and no body wins. The topic will likely be deleted and earnings lost. The other reason I can think of is that some just seem to start discussions that aren't accepted on Mylot. People respond, money is earned, the topic gets deleted and money is lost. I used to respond to each of these pleas for answers but now I just smile and move on. Why do you think people lose their earnings here?

I only really help those with a low posting number. I know that many new members don't read the guidelines. I know because I am guilty of that in the beginning. I too, asked the question about why I lost money. Some one was there to help me. I had started a discussion that did violate the guidelines. I investigated and found one of my discussions was deleted. Advise that was given me was to read the guidelines. I was grateful for the help because it meant that I did learn from my mistakes and I do understand why my own earnings do go down at times. I like to help because the next member I help may be grateful that some one helped them. I wish we could have a signature on here. I would put, Chookie's advise, read the guidelines so that earnings are not lost.

I like being helpful too. That's the main reason I stay on Mylot. And it would be cool to have, maybe not a signature as such, but maybe a tag line or our favorite slogan. As a computer instructor for the past 20 years or so I made up a slogan for my workbooks that says: Frequently saving your work, frequently saves your work.

What you have said about saving your work frequently is so true. I always hate it when there is black outs, my speadsheet work is not saved, and I can lose some information. It would mean that I would have to do my work all over again. But that just does not apply to just work on the computer. I also believe that the same applies to games. If you complete goals on games, I believe that the game should be saved because if anything happens, at least you don't have to do the goal in the game.

I have pointed out in the past and I shall continue to do so in the future that each user MUST be aware of the Guidelines here, not only when starting their own discussions but also so that they know where NOT TO RESPOND. When earnings are lost it is only because discussions and/or responses/comments have been deleted. If myLot staff are behind with removing those violations and earnings have already been added to our accounts, we will then LOSE them once the discussions go. If we avoid responding on those topics which contain violations this will NOT happen. Simple!

I think you hit it right on when you said you need to know when to NOT respond. It is so true in every day life as well, knowing when to keep your mouth shut or when to bite your tongue before you speak. :) Thanks

Interesting discussion here, but so True for sure. Many times the reason people loose earnings here is for responding back with negative thoughts, or responding back to discussions that are against the TOS as well. I know that there are many times that I have lost earnings, but it is really to be expected. I feel that if more people, especially newer people read the TOS and stuck with them in posting and starting New discussions so we could hear of less people being disappointed in here as well.

Good day KrauseHome I think the majority of people tend to think if they good they will not violate any terms so they just don't bother reading. I have done this myself on many sites. So it's good to be kind to those that err when they are just new to Mylot. :)

I strongly believe the quality of the response matters. If you are not respectfull to others your post may get deleted and you loose your earnings. Mylot is for discussion purposes and not for trying to push your opinion on everyone. I've seen many hatefull discussions get deleted, people getting into firefights as you have referred too that don't do anyone good. It's too bad because most people here are adults and you would think that they choose a discussion program because they are open minded and hope to learn from other people and have valuable and fun discussions.

I agree that one should avoid getting involved in discussions that obviously violate myLot rules. However, I've seen legitimate comments on legitimate threads get deleted because their post was already up when an individual decided to cause trouble. So it doesn't always have to do with breaking rules.

Thanks for starting this topic, it's helped me to learn a bit. I joined mylot a while ago, but haven't been on everyday since I joined; so am still learning the ropes. I wasn't aware of star values, or that you lose earnings if your topic is deleted. I will have to go look for the guidelines now.

Yeah it's good to checkout the guidelines before you slam into one that you didn't read and it costs you.

I also think there is alot of bias. Meaning if you say all the "politically correct" things, you will get the higher ratings. If you discuss anything controversial, then your ratings may take a hit. I personally do NOT care about my rating, I will post what I believe in, even if that makes people uncomfortable. Truth and honesty are more important to me than getting a high rating

The thing about discussions that are controversial is that they tend to grab people emotionally, quite often anger, so they just have to say something. When I make comments on these type of discussions I take a mental note that I will not earn for this response or I will earn and lose it later.

I appreciate this warning you have prepared for all of us. Before I read this I didn't mind whether a discussion I respond to is deviating any mylot policy, I still respond to them. Having read this, from now on I will carefully select discussions that aren't violating any policy.

Well there are times that I just have to jump into a discussion and say something, even though I know the discussion will be deleted but knowing I won't keep a penny or two doesn't bother me when I know I am doing it. :)

Ah you are living too close to the fence. Live a little and get into one or two conversations that get under your skin. :)

Good topic, and lots of good responses here too. I think that we just need to be patient and if the user is new as mentioned in one of the responses then yes by all means help them out and remind them to read the guidelines. I did read them when I joined but many users don't they just sign up and start going. I'm sure I will mess up somewhere as I'm not perfect and will lose some earnings at some point or another as well. Maybe MyLot could have some sort of system that automatically notifies a user " You've lost $.10 because X topic was deleted" or better yet like they have a log for the tasks of which ones are approved, rejected, etc.. maybe they could add a similar log in the users area of topics, and comments deleted ( with a small reason why ) that way the user can look back and see what they did wrong and learn from their mistakes.:)
