who is god?

how would you answer that question? some feel that they know god well - and that he is a close friend. others view god as a distant relative. they believe he exists but know little about him. if you believe in god, how would you answer the question
being asked?

As I work with small children a great deal at church I get asked this question a lot, and I have to explain it to children between the ages of 5 and 8. which can be interesting when they start asking questions.
For the most part here is what I tell them
God is the creator of the world, he is our father and our friend. He is there for us no matter what, and will be by our side through out our life to help guide us through the difficult times.

To me God is my best friend, my constant companion, my father, my guide and my Lord.
