If it does what are you doing to either prevent it in yourself or delay it from occurring (ex. diet, exercise, etc.)?

I have type 2 diabetes and my doctor says it is an inherited disease. My grandmother was a diabetic and all my brothers and sister have diabetes. It is not always caused from being overweight some overweight people never develop this disease no matter how fat they get. I for one have never been overweight. My doctor is actually pleased that I have gained a little weight. I control my diabetes with my diet and a little exercise. Can't do much exercise because of a back injury. I can still eat candy, cakes and pies. BUT I have to adapt the recipes to fit my diet. I have a squidoo lens that has some of the recipes I use so I don't have to do without my favorite foods. If you want some great tasting recipes you can get them here. I just put 2 new recipes on there today Ratatouille and a Flourless Chocolate Cake... BTW I have been able to keep my blood sugar at 89 to 120 without taking any medication. http://squidoo.com/low_carb_recipes

In my case it really runs in the family but it is on the side of my father. Our relatives has it too. Last year my father diagnose with type1 diabetes so he was so very sad. because he really love to eat foods that are prohibited when you have this kind of illness. This hard for our family. Now we are trying to shift to some healthy guidelines and engage ourselves to some precautionary actions like exercising and eating the right kind of food for us to maintain a healthy balance diet.

Yes, my dad is almost diebetic so i'm being careful because i might get diabetes too! I do a lot of exercises and i stay away from sugary food. I think living a healthy life will keep you safe but if heredity affects me, then i have nothing more to do but to accept the fact. I think it will delay of course if you're living a healthy life. You might even get rid of it. My dad is taking medicines because he's already on the threshold of getting diabetes so we worry a lot about his condition. He's getting paranoid too especially when he cuts his self accidentally.

Diabetes does run on my mothers side of the family and I am told that it also runs in my fathers side. I am a type two insulin dependent diabetic myself. I have been diagnosed for about five years now although I have been told I have had it since I was a child. My mother just found out she was a diabetic last year and I know that on her side both her mother and her father had it so it runs pretty thick on her side if the family, I have two children and I make sure I have them tested just be be sure that they don't get it and if they may that it gets detected and diagnosed for it gets too bad.
