Do you create dog ears or use bookmarks?

Whenever I stop reading I just put the book back on the shelf. No bookmark, no dog ears, nothing. I just find the page where I stopped reading and go ahead. WHat about you? What do you do?

Erhm, what exactly is a 'dog ear'? Is that the term used for folding a bit of the page to indicate where one has stopped reading? If that is so, I dont 'dog ear' my books. I treasure and Im not fond of tarnishing them. The paper are quite sensitive material given time and Id still want to be able to read the contents of the book after 50 years or something like that. Anyway, I also do what you do. I just close the book and leave it to the side. Look for the page when Im going to read it again. I used to insert some kind of paper or an indicator like a thread, a pen, the edge of a small pillow, or anything that is reachable, something like that so I can identify which page I stopped at. I dont do that anymore though.

Oh right.LOL Study books should be well used. I still dont fold the pages of my study books but i do insert my notes or some scratch papers. My notes are mostly found on the margins of the book itself.

You have got it right. That is a dog ear. I can never do a dog ear except if they are study books. Now study books should look worn out. Thanks for the response.

When I was a kid, I always used to dog ear the book. In fact it was a fascination for me. I saw a couple of elders do it in a library and then I thought it was a great thing to do. I even dog-eared my notebooks! But as I grew up, I realized that it was some sort of a bad habit. I like reading. And my mylot username is the proof. I got acquainted with my school librarian. SHe was very kind with me and liked me a lot. Once she got angry while I dog eared a book. And then I understood how bad it was. Even though the experience was on 'do-not-spoil-library-books' basis, it was like a lesson in my life. I never ever dog eared any books after that. I used self made bookmarks. Even now I don't. Mainly two reasons for that: *I try to remember the page and recollect it the next time. That gives a boost to my memory. *I more often use ebooks! How can I dog ear an ebook??

Self made bookmarks could be great though, have you tried it? I do that because it can be used for writing some catchy quotes or phone number, tasks, reminders, etc. It would be a good substitute for a pocket diary. If you didn't try it, try it now. Agreed?

I love my books as children.I always tend them carefully.I don't like to bend the corners of the pages and make an ugly impression on the beautiful fresh pages. So I always use bookmarks. My daughter makes beautiful and imaginative book marks for me. I have a great collection of book marks themselves.

Whevener I read books, I always make sure that I have my bookmark with me so that I won't create any dog ears on every page. What's interesting is that I always want to read the last page first to find out who's the antagonist and the protagonist.

I have the same habit too. I end up reading the first chapter to know the characters and then straight to the end. I just cant wait to read through the book to know what happens. After reading the end I read the remainder of the book.

i use a piece of paper to mark the page.i can never remember the page where i left off,i do not like to spoil the book by keeping it face down or dog ear the page.no way.i like to handle the books with tender loving care.i cover it with a plastic sheet available for that purpose in the market.if its to be returned to the circulating library i cover it with news paper as long as i have it am reading it.

I'm a terrible dog-ear page bender. Hardcover, softcover, it doesn't matter to me. I always lose bookmark and apparently lack the brain capacity to remember what page I left off from, so I bend the corner down. I'm not crazy, it's just a few millimeters in the corner, not half the page, but I have been made to feel terrible about it.

Me too. Even though I may have kept a book mark in the book, it stays in one place and when I feel I will not remember where I stopped, I create a dog ear and that is pretty often. The only time I did not create dog ears in a book was when I Bought this set of books and had them signed by the author.

I use to put a pen or a pencil on the page where I left reading. So, it is not difficult for me to find where I was last time but that only can be applied for a short break, if there is a long break in between reading then I would just remember the page number and try to trust my memory!

Well i just use the traditional method of creating dogmarks on my books.......the simple reason being i sometimes just don't get the time to be so organized.......so if my friend calls up and says oh this is important, i just quickly dogmark that page.......that's so simple........well i like to place bookmarks on the novels that i read......i like to keep them as neat as possible........i keep the dogmarks for my college books........

I always use a bookmark. Playing cards make great bookmarks only problem then is if you want to play a game of cards you'll find yourself a incomplete deck. If you have kids like mine though the decks are all incomplete anyway. Dog ear the corners is something I never do. I know I'm causing damage and I value books too much for that.

I make dog-ears. I love to read, however my books tend to look well worn because by the time I finish it, it has gone in my purse through out many outings.
