Safest way to travel

i've traveled using both transportation ship and plane... and for me i think plane is safer, because you'll arrive at a short time, whereas in ships it takes days and nights... from manila to davao, i think it was 2 days and 3 nights (if i remember it right, that was a very long time ago). plus when you are traveling by ship, at night, you cant see anything, and when the waves are strong, oh you want to just arrive at the place right away. you know, when its time to go, its time go... we can even think that it is not safe to travel by land as every day/night there are plenty of news on car accidents...
