How do you know the feelings or emotions of your pet towards you?

We always had dogs in my parents home but i never really had my own pet. Last Saturday after being with seven dogs in my cousin's house, ten dogs in my friend's, and two puppies and a kitten (who are best friends -- the kitten sleeping on one of the puppies' back!)at my brother's place, it felt like i've just done window shopping and found the likely pet i want to bring home, a daschund, a silky black one and i would love to know how it feels like being able to communicate with him!

Well animals got certain expressions from which we come to know what are they actually thinking of. I can understand that easily. Well i cannot tell you how to find that out, because even when we dont know a particular human being, we dont tend to understand their feelings too but as we go on being with them for a long time we then also get to know their behaviours slowly.May be this is also with pets, i am with my dog from last 7 years now and thats why i know him better..

max has always been at my side, 5 months ago he got diabetes and last week he went blind from it, so i've been walking him around the outside and inside so he can get his bearings. this wednesday im taking him for cateract surgery before its to late and he'll be blind forever, i have to make sure he doesn't walk in the pool when he's in the lanai but im pretty sure he can smell the water and chlorine in it and he's been staying away. he a lhaso apso so his lags are to short for him to swim , he sinks like a rock. i think he knows whats going on and looks to me to get him going in the right direction. he always comes over and licks me which are dog kisses i'm sure.
