I'm in the U.S. and I like to subscribe to the Sunday paper for the sales flyers & coupons. Recently I had to cancel the credit card where my paper subscription was automatically billed due to someone using the number without authorization. So, I received a bill from the newspaper. Since they had continued to deliver the paper, I did pay the bill, BUT I noticed that they were charging me $2.23 per Sunday paper when I can buy it in stores for $1.50. I realize & expect a slight surcharge for delivery, but that was quite high to me. When I asked they claimed that the price was going up to $2.25 in stores that week. Well, lo & behold, the price had still not gone up that week as I was told. I called again and another rep told me that it was going up but not until next week. Well, several weeks later and the price was still at $1.50. So I called to cancel. When they asked me why I said that I would just drop by the store & pick up a copy since they were charging so much for home delivery now. Amazingly enough, the dropped the price in half and I'm now paying LESS than I would in the store. So, if you subsribe, check your bill and see what you're being charged..

Wow, I'm glad you got that mess figured out and that they finally cut you a deal. We buy our papers from the store on Sunday because when we inquired about getting twenty papers delivered each Sunday, they said it would cost us 40 bucks, the same it costs to buy it from the store. Of course, the only difference there would be we would be *contracted* to pay that amount. Not worth it for us!

Wow. I would have thought if you wanted multiple copies they'd cut you a break! Do you get that many for the sake of coupons? I actually found a "free" source of coupons here so I don't purchase extras on Sunday any more. It's a local city paper that comes out on Wednesdays. yippee! And it's free! At least this way you don't pay for the extras on the weeks you don't want them. Thanks for responding.

Thank you for the info because I too only get the Sunday paper and its charged to my credit card. I have to check this out and see what I'm being charged for because I will do the same thing. I couldn't wait I decided to check my bill out now. I get charged 36.00 for 6 months, $1.50 a paper 6.00 dollars a month. The front paper says $1.50. So I'm good till they decide to raise the paper. Thanks again!

Glad to hear it! Just keep an eye on it! With the auto-bill, I just wasn't paying close enough attention. I wonder how long they were scamming me! grrr

well that sure wasnt fair. it sounds like what they did to me at AOL internet connection. i noticed they raised it after a couple months to twice what they had said it would always be. they told me it was a check fee. i said thats just stupid because they took it out of my account automaticly so where was it a check. they said sorry. i said they were pulling this over on me for several months so what could i expect the money returned? they said they couldnt do that but would give me 3 months free to make it up. sure enough i got 3 mths free but then they started charging me the same again. so i canceled in spite of their begging me to stay. companies that take out of your account automaticly do this all the time

That is crazy! I wonder how often they get away with that! I do not currently subscribe to a newspaper. Everytime I have, it is not only convenient, but it costs less than in the stores! Dont be fooled by the home delivery thing. Yes it is convenient for you. Yes they have to pay someone to deliver it to you. BUT when the newspapers get sold in the stores, the store gets their cut too! The stores would bother to sell the newspaper if they didnt make anything off of it! So whether the newspaper pays the delivery boy or the store, they are paying someone in order for that newspaper to get to you! Im glad that you finally got that fixed. I cant believe how many people were jerks about it!

That is a very good point. It probably is cheaper for them to do delivery than to sell in the stores. Plus they are GUARANTEED a sale where I know they have to credit the stores back from whatever copies are not sold. If they hadn't given me a better price I would have cancelled and waited for them to call me back and offer me a better deal! Thanks for responding.
