Makeup for play time?

I bought my daughters a case of play makeup, and I have to say, it was a pretty big mistake. Firstly they have hedious colors, blue for example. "It's okay" I thought, it's just for playing. Now that would have been great except for one thing, the colors stain everything! Clothes, furniture, carpet and childrens skin alike. I tried everything to wash off the blue and purple eye shadow, nothing worked. The result was that, my daughters looked like painted clowns for the two days that it took for the color to wear off on it's own. I wanted to find one that doesn't have such dark colors, and doesn't stain but so far I have been afraid to try anything else. Has this ever happened to you?

Oh no! I would contact the manufacture of the kids makeup and complain to them. They should at least reimburse you for the amount you paid for the makeup. I would be furious too! Especially if you had something special going on and your kids had stained faces. Has it made it to the garbage yet?

Yup long time ago. I trashed it as soon as they went to bed. I have to confess that I blamed the dog, they laughed so I guess it wasn't such a bad idea.

thanks for starting this discussion. the timing is perfect since i've been planning to purchase some play makeup for my kid. but now i changed my mind because she also likes to put colors 'everywhere' like the couch, floor, her own skin, and even mine!

I've had problems with kids' make-up staining things, too. I've found that the best solution really is to just get them cheap "adult" makeup to use for play--it's more likely to be washable and isnt usually as horrifyingily brightly colored (or, at least, you have the option to get colors that arent as bad).
