Is wearing high heels like being on tiptoes all the time? Does it hurt?

Wearing high heels is awful, and I can't understand why other women do it. It's not quite like walking on tiptoe, because the back of the shoe supports your heel. But the weight does tend to slide forward onto the toes. Walking in high heels for extended periods of time has been shown to cause foot deformities in women, like causing the toes to be unnaturally scrunched together even when the shoes are off. It can also cause heel problems and knee problems. I find high heels to be painful, and I only wear them for interviews and special occasions. I didn't even wear high heels for my whole wedding- I wore them for the ceremony, but I put on my slippers for the reception.
