The stome is not an eye. It is a pore on the bottom of leaves that is opened by guard cells to let CO2 in and oxygen and water vapor out. The stomatal pore is opened during the day and is crucial in food production for plants. There are many factors that cause the guard cells to open the stomatal pore and the pore will not open if the plant is in danger of loosing too much water.
