Anyone own a Gerbil?

Gerbil that is the desert mouse. I think that it is very cute and interesting, so I want to have it as my pet. But I've heard that petting Gerbil is harder than Hamster, it wants lots of exercise and it is social animal that live as family. So I want to know exactly from someone that have it. If anyone own it please share, so I know if I really can have it and how to take care of it.

i use to have a gerbil , with a little long fur , but after keeping for less than three months , it's pass away , maybe i don't know how to take care of it
