I have a 13 year old son,2 weeks ago,in school his teacher asked him to close the window,it slipped and jammed 3 fingers in it,he pulled them out ripping them open and losing a nail. After 4 hours in the hospital they finally stiched him up and gave him a presction. He has 2 VERY sore fingers and 1 he can't feel.4 more trips to the hospital and 12 prescriptions later he is finally doing better. The problem,I have called the school about this and all i get is 'we are sorry'.I live in Canada so there are no medical bills, but I feel they should have at least offered to pay for SOME of his prescriptions. What do you think?

I can see how the school would think they are not responsible, but I can also see how you would want them to help out. It was an accident it is not like it was done on purpose or because someone was negligent in any way shape or form.

And I agree but the student should not be closing those windows, the teacher or another adult should be they are the kind you push up but they have to have something under them to hold them up

I don't know about Canadian schools, but here in the US, the school is liable for anything that happens during school hours. The school should have paid for all the expensies or at least offered. IT was negligence on teh teacher's part to have your son close the window. I have done it a hundred times myself... you don't expect accidents, but when they do happen there is to be an accident report filed out and kept on file in the office. You might ask to see a copy of it.

The simple fact is that accidents do indeed happen but the teacher had no right to ask a child to close or open a window. If he or she wanted it opened or closed they should have been the adult and done it themselves. I think if you call the school and let them know the cost of the prescriptions that they should seriously think about helping you with them. My 8 year old son left his glasses at school mind you these were a 300 dollar pair of glasses that I had to pay for. The next day he was absent from school his buddy that sat next to him told him his teacher put them on his chair! I called the school and questioned the teacher and he said that his chair was on top of his desk and that is where he place the glasses. I am now arguing with the school and trust me when I say I will win this one. I believe once the teacher found those glasses he was then responsible for securing them in a safe place. I do not understand why he would not put them in his drawer to protect them, but yet his decision was to leave them out in the open for another child to take. Since they were not there when my son returned to school that is the only conclusion that I can come too.
