WHY DO TOASTER HAVE A SETTING OF BURN....

Why do toasters always have a setting that burns the toast to a horrible crisp which no decent human being would eat?

My father loved ALL his food burnt to a crisp..lol..Maybe he secretly invented them~ Who knows??
