Hello concerned citizens! The situation in Afghanistan is bad no doubt, but the main problem is Pakistan. Recently the Pakistani army has finally stopped playing love birds with the Taliban and declared war on the Taliban. The problem is many Pakistanis are sympathetic to the cause and even worse is that 70% of Pakistanis agree with the Taliban's main mission and that is to spread Sharia throughout the Muslim world. on top of that is the fact that pakistan is Nuclear and if the govenrnment falls the US and the rest of the world will have a huge problem to deal with. So now that i've said something. Keep the discussion going. Heck maybe we can figure out a solution right here... hopefully.. maybe.. probably not... but let's try anyway.

The Taliban, even though they create Thompson's favorite fear and loathing and still manage to earn plenty of (can't beat 'em, join 'em) support, are a radical fringe group that needs to be stopped. And everyone is well aware of this. If the 30% that disagreed would stand up and crush them, those other 70% wouldn't shed tears, I'm sure. There's a fine line between complacency and complicity. Other than a head-on fight, I do not see any other solution. The world has become complicit. You cannot talk them out of their cause. You cannot give them a little bit of something and expect them to stop. And you cannot allow their expansion to continue. My solution: The would should band together and take them out. Forget the UN and their habitual catering to human rights violators. Obama has a lot of leverage as a man of such extreme popularity. If I were him, I'd stop formulating my rhetoric to condescendingly appease the rest of the world, and I'd work out an agreement to build a strong, joint-effort military force to quickly--hopefully--sweep through the Taliban, even if I had to threaten the loss of America as an ally. The world is currently packed full of finger-pointers, but very few willing to lend a hand. This was the trend pre WWII as well. Everyone thought ignoring bad guys would make them go away. Well, the problem is, for all the good in the heart of the righteous, there's more evil in the heart of a tyrant. Your laying down will result in a swift kick from the man still wanting to fight. It's a funny situation: it would seem, at least judging by the populous tone of the rest of the world, that they're content to let evil like the Taliban and lil Kim Jong-il over in NK run rampant on the world so long as they can blame America after the fact. I know it's a simple notion that has before and will still result in my being called a simpleton, warmonger, and all-around violent person, but it's time to man-up and fight evil! However, I'd love to hear solutions from the pro-peace population, which myLot has an abundance of. Belive me when I say that if someone can find a peaceful solution that doesn't involve becoming subservient to the Taliban, EVERYONE will be on board. :-)
