Spelling is a problem, yes or no?

Accuracy in spelling is a problem for me.Not because I am failing to memorise them, but because,my son is poor in memorising English spellings and I don't know how to teach him spellings.There are many words where there no standard logic is followed while constructing the word. And on the top of it the school curriculum attributes much weightage on accuracy in spelling. It cannot be avoided too. Because little difference in spelling may draw different meaning or sense. I am in an unsurmountable spelling mess.
