Can Someone Help Me With A Computer Issue?

My wireless network adapter seems to only work when it wants to. Right now I have it plugged into my cable router, but I am on a laptop and it used to get wireless just fine. Theres a switch on my computer and when the wireless connection is working,it has a blue light, when it is off, it is orange. It just stopped working out of nowhere one day. I tried to update the network drivers and I even reformatted my computer to factory condition. Nothing seems to work. It says that the computer is not recognizing that there is a wireless card installed, but sometimes, out of nowhere, it will work. If I do a complete diagnostic system test, the wireless will work, but once I shut down my computer, it wont recognize it anymore when I try again later. Does anyone know anything about this?

Is your computer a Dell? Not that it really matters it is just that I am curious for I have a friend with the same problem. Sounds like you are trying everything to solve this issue but after you switch the switch back into its correct position do you reboot your modem? Try that and maybe it will solve your issue. If not I would call the help center of the computer you have and they may be able to clarify why your wireless is not beng picked up. See now if you had a Mac....... nah never mind I wont go on and on about this. But next computer you invest in .. Get a MAC!

No I have a Compaq. I tried rebooting the router and the computer. I know that its not the router because the kids can get online with the Ps3...so it must be the computer. It is driving me crazy! Yeah, I hear Macs are good. lol

sounds like it's time for a new network card. You can probably pick up a new network card for $30 - $40. You might want to choose a USB network adapter as it will save you on an expensive repair bill if you try to get the laptop's internal adapter repaired. Hope this helps.

On my laptop I also have a switch on the side that I can turn the wireless off and on. If you have this with yours it maybe caught in the middle and at times it connects and sometimes not.
