Hello All, My 5 year old seems to have developed an allergy to the sun. After limited exposure with or without sun screen, a rash on her arms and chest appear in blotchy red spots. Does anyone else have this allergy does anything help? A specific type of sun screen. Is is hopefully just a childhood allergy which she may grow out of? Odd as well that this developed after 5 years of life and not as toddler...

My dad, in his 50's developed an allergy to sunshine. It looked like sun poisoning. If it could wait that long, it could wait a simple 5 years. Honestly, I would take him to the doctor AND talk about this.

Yes it is strange how the body works that an allergy can just appear! 50 years wow, long time to live without worrying about something :)

it is more than likely just a sun rash, limit the amount of time she has direct sun exposure, get her one of those sun proof shirts that will protect her but are still good for the pool etc.

Great idea on the shirt I think there is a line called Del Sol that atually changes color in the sun.

hi! perhaps it's skin asthma. i started having it only a few years ago when my asthma was triggered. when i was a kid i used to play a lot under the sun. but these days i need to get a limit to sun's exposure or i get red blotches all over. normally sunscreens can do the trick. but too much exposure to the sun is still not advisable. better consult a doctor for better diagnosis. my nephew (in the avatar, when he was a baby) developed skin asthma also when he was a toodler still. some skin asthma are itchy especially for active kids. some people may outgrew this type of allergy, hopefully your daughter will. my nephew is doing a lot better now. he almost never get asthma attacks on the skin and he's been doing a lot of outdoor activities like swimming. but of course we still make sure he applies sunscreen if the sun is really hot and blazing and we don't normally let him on the pool between 10am - 3pm.

These are all excellent tips, we will give them a try and hopefully this will reduce the instances of rash.
