I'd suggest going to the pound or looking in the newspaper. You'll be getting a kitten from people who really care about the kitten! Be sure, no matter who you get it from, that you get its vaccination papers if it's been vaccinated already. Stuff like that. Pet store can work too. The pets are ok usually, but often they come from kitten mills and the money goes right back into the mill. That and often pets that come from mills carry parasites, diseases, and uncontrolled genetic predispositions to disorders. Of course, every cat will become a "special needs cat" when it gets old enough. Good luck! Gonna post pics when you get him/her?

Get one from the pound/shelter or a rescue! Those are the cats that really need a home! Some of them are in a place that will euthanize them if they aren't adopted within a certain amount of time. When you go, look for a cat that has clear eyes, isn't sneezing, doesn't have mucous in its nose or eyes, looks clean (especially around the bum area), and seems to have normal energy for a cat. Cats sleep a lot, so you could be looking at a perfectly healthy cat that is just sleeping, but you can see weakness if the cat looks groggy once it is awakened. Ask to see and hold several of the cats. My cat was a shelter kitty. I found her by holding almost all of the cats in the shelter. Some were loudly meowing, some were struggling to get away. Some just looked and acted sick. My cat was one of the last ones I held. I almost left without touching her, since she was just a black and white cat and didn't have anything in her looks that made her special. However, the person working the shelter that day knew the kind of cat she was and told me I needed to see her. As soon as I picked her up, she started to purr. She settled into my arms, purring, and started kneading my shirt with her front claws. She had me at "hello." I am so not a cat person, but I love our freaking cat. She is awesome. And I saved her life by adopting her. It feels good to adopt because not only are you saving a life, but you are also giving that animal a second chance at an awesome life with you!
