I was scanning my whole computer for Virus this afternoon, then I went out and I got shocked when I got back there were almost 2000 detection of viruses. T_T Not BIG virus but still it can harm the comp. Wow. That was my impression. I could not believe that it's that high. lol. It's been a while I haven't updated. Do you run your antivirus? Do you scan for Virus every now and then? I think I should set it to weekly now. hehe Just to be safe.

IT's recommended you do it weekly but I don't do it weekly either. I do it every month or so but I hardly ever find a virus.

Well, I download songs and have torrents too but I download them from trusted sites. They are hard to find but if you look hard enough, you should find them.

Which antivirus are you using? I would like to recommend Kaspersky Internet Security, it is great, it's detection databases are large so there isn't a possibility to get the virus. I'm scanning my PC every couple of days, at least 8 times per month so I can be sure that I don't have any viruses. You can also try Spybot S&D which will protect you from the spyware. Happy mylotting and take care!

2000? Wow. That's most likely tracking cookies, I mean I doubt you had 2000 trojans and your computer was still alive. They're mostly harmless and sometimes they may not be tracking cookies at all. Anyway to answer your question yes I use an antivirus, I turn it off sometimes (like right now) since it slows down your computer's performance when doing certain actions, mostly when using a program like a torrent client or something that deals with big files, that only happens when you've set it to automatically scan everything that goes into your computer's memory but I don't want to tweak with the settings all the time and simply shut it down when I need to do something...I update it at irregular intervals, I may do it many times a day or once a week or until it tells me that I should update the databases. I'm not afraid of viruses that much to be on edge and worry about going to some websites or download some files that may contain a virus, I've been infected some times already and know its not as much of a threat as the antivirus companies make it seem like, of course, they make it seem like its the end of the world so you buy the product to protect yourself. Unless the virus goes to the boot sector of your computer and makes it unable to start windows its nothing serious...I scan sometimes but mostly only certain locations in my pc like the windows directory, the memory, boot sector and other stuff... By the way if you want to know if your antivirus is working try googling "eicar virus test", its the first result. Its harmless and it should get a response out of your antivirus software, so you can be sure it protects you in real-time

I have that kind of experience before. I remember I just let my antivirus scan my computer and came back after a few hours. To my surprise, the antivirus detected thousand over viruses. Fortunately, I managed to clean all the viruses. If you notice your computer performs slower than usual, this might be the sign of viruses. Nowadays, i update my antivirus in a daily basis. Even though i did have experience to remove viruses manually, however the process if painful. Make sure your antivirus is always up to date. Prevention is better than cure.

I am using avira antivirus and I find it very effective. I scan my computer every month but hardly find any. Usually when I open some site and a virus is present my avira anti virus will warn me right away. This is perhaps the reason why it the virus cannot enter. Well, I have set my avira anti virus to check for updates automatically. This way, I am assured that it can monitor and identify new viruses.

I don't use any antivirus, and I also think it is not necessary. The websites I usually go through are safe, and so far,my computer has never been attacked by virus.

I think you should either pay monthly for a better service or call up your internet service provider and see if they offer any free virus protection! :D I use my ISP's version of F-Secure which is number 2 on the charts worldwide. You never know, you might get something for free that works! :P Thanks, Josh

I never do virus scanning on my computer because i thought it should be real time scanning. Thanks your advice on doing scanning regularly. It is really scary that you found 2000 virus in your computer. I think that mine one would be more than you. haha:-)
