Crash Landing

Have you ever been on a plane where you had to do a crash landing? I did it was about 10 years ago and we were on our way to Hawaii. We had a lay over in Atlanta. As we were about to land at the airport the pilot came on and said that our landing gear wasn't locking into place and that they were having a plane fly under us to see if it was down or not. We circled the airport for about an hour. They said that the gear was down but there was a good chance that it wasn't locked in and we were going to have to try to land the plane. As we started to go down towards the runway everyone was praying the kids were crying...I wasn't crying because I was trying to keep my little brother calm (he was 5 and I was 11). The worst part of it all was as we came closer to the runway there were police cars and ambulances all over the place. I counted 20 on my side of the plane alone...so I'm guessing there were probably another 20 on the other side. The front tires were locked but the tires under the main part of the plane didn't...so we literally bounced and scrapped the bottom of the plane and I guess that jolt made the landing gear lock in place. That was the scariest part. They didn't want to taxi the airplane and so we all had to get off in the middle of the run way....and if that wasn't bad enough we had to all get on another flight to get to Hawaii...at least that plane ride went a lot smoother. But at least no one had gotten hurt or anything like that. If that had happened to you, would you never fly again? It definitely hasn't kept me from flying I fly at least 5 or 6 times a year for various things.

Oh my. That must have been a scary trip. It hasn't put you off flying again so that was good. I am so sorry to hear about your near to a crash landing in Hawaii. I haven't experienced any near crash landings thankfully. Flying from London to Sfax via Tunis there was lots of turbulence and it seemed incredibly bumpy. I heard about an airline that was flying from Singapore to Perth. For a few moments the airline began to fall but luckily the pilot was able to put things right. Sadly a number of the passengers go injured. It must have been a very frightening trip for all the passengers. The plane was an airbus 330 I have heard.

Yeah it was scary. I can't imagine being on a plane while it's actually falling. That had to have been really scary. At least we were flying, just we didn't know how we were going to land.
