The age limit to drinking...

Australia

Hey guys what are your thoughts on the age that it is legal for people to drink? In Germany it's 16. In Australia it's 18. In america it is 21. Do you think 21 is to old? Or do you think 16 is to young? Should there be a law? What are your thoughts about it?

For me it's only a question to drink in a responsible way.... and in my opinion 16 it's not too young! when you are 16 you are just able to understand what is right and what is not!

I compeletely agree...but...unfortunately until this day there are 20 year olds and 30 year olds, even older, who aren't responsible at all. But like you said when your 16, your don't really understand, and just do it 'cus everyone else is'

You're right on the part of 20-30 years old people! But for the second you don't understand, because, for me, when you're 16, you ARE ABLE to perceive what is right or not, it depends by the people if they are responsible or not!

Yes you are correct when you say "perceive" but just cus you perceive, it doesn't mean that you are right, it just means that that is how you *think*. And when you are 16 you *think* that you are always right, or that you know better. That's just the way teenagers are. You may perceive something is right in your own eyes and head, but it might not be right in the eyes of the law, or your parents. thanks for sharing!

There should be a law but I don't think my country has a law though. People in my country don't drink much and there's never a drunk driver hit and run accidents so I don't think we need a law.

Thank you for your response! But what country are you from? I wonder why drinking is not popular there. Here in Australia drinking is a big thing, but unfortunately there is a large amount of deaths from drink driving.

Well, it's not that it's not a big thing. My people don't get that drunk I guess. I'm from Bangladesh by the way.

I think 18 is the best age to have a taste of drinking. 21 is too overrated. Kids now a days can get away with drinking in the most earliest age ever imagined... I say you can drink at the age of 18 and party hard when you're 21. :)

I believe 16 is way to young and 21 is just right. There should be a law where the legal drinking age is 21 for all no matter where you live.

I agree 16 is way to young, but for me 21 is too old as well. I think im just used to be able to drink when im 18 over here in Australia

16 is too young, and 21 is too old - the middle ground is 18 years old. The way I see it is if 18 is old enough to vote AND DIE for your country than it should be old enough to drink - as long as they drink responsibly!!!!!
