fund raising ideas

I am looking for a fresh new way to raise money for an event that is taking place august 1st and need some ideas.
I know a bake off could help but anyone out here who knows how to raise money can you please help me get some new ideas.
My group needs to raise at least $2000 in a month any suggestions will be most helpful

Here are my suggestions:
1. Have a "garage/yard" sale of donated items. Make sure that the items donated are useful and something that a lot of people would be interested to buy.
2. Host a talent show. Children of your group's members could come up with something and present it to the community. Charge a minimum amount ($2/person or something) so that people would be encouraged to watch with their WHOLE family. If a family of 4 comes, that would be $8 already.

the second idea is pretty clever. I will definatel put that into the hat of things to do. But most of the people involved are pretty self conscious and dont want a live studio for there screw ups.
