gladiolus problem

i planted some gladiolus this year.they came very nicely and got flowers too.but what should i do after the flowers are dried.do i have to cut the canes so new ones will come? i am new to this plant variety.and these canes are bending to the ground after giving lot of support of dirt.what can i do for that? help..please.
