all of my dog's first puppies died.is it really normal?

my dog gave birth to four puppies and they were all weak and lived only for an hour.. it was my first imported dog, a jack russel breed and we're all very sad. my friend told me that it's really normal and impoted dogs really have small chances of living especially if it's the first time of the dog to have puppies. i'm just hoping that my dog will soon have another puppies.healthy puppies.
