Does anyone think you are a bit eccentric for loving history so much? Are you so fascinated with studying the past that you wish you could live back then?

I don't think it's eccentric, we're just a special breed. I love history. I love reading about the medieval/renaissance times as well as ancient rome.

I agree 100%! The medieval era was always one of my favorite time periods to study. I like reading medieval fiction, but on a side note, nothing throws me out of the novel quicker than seeing a name that just doesn't sound medieval. Has this ever happened to you, coming across a "Colin" or a "Joy" in the 1100s?

Medieval Times - pic of medieval time period
I love history/studying the past. I write historical fiction, so I am always researching something having to do with history. I want my stories to be as accurate as possible, so I try to get all the facts correct. Luckily, my fiance enjoys historical facts also, so he doesn't think I'm too eccentric. I feel it is a good thing to know the past and where we come from. I often wish I could have lived in a different time and place...medieval is one of my top choices.

I also dabble in historical fiction! Researching history is something I never get tired of. My favorite time periods are ancient (Egypt and Rome), medieval (between the 1000s and 1300s) and early modern (the 1500s when America was being colonized).

It is an interesting prospect to consider living in some other era. What would it be like? Would I fit in better? Chances are you are living in the best time frame of any era. Modern conveniences, technology, ease of this and that. I always daydreamed about living in the 19th century. I would probably perish or be close to the end of my life if I did live in 1860, say. It was definitely a harder life back then, I would imagine. Cool avatar picture, BTW!

I understand exactly what you mean. If I lived in, say, the medieval era, I'd probably be married and be raising about three children by now. It's hard to comprehend how different things were in the past.

Well what about hobbies this is indeed a pleasant subject for me to talk about. I love my free time. I am loving it because i have enough for everything i want to do. Can't imagine what this world would have done without having it's hobbies. There are a lot of them and the most common one are the one in which you get a lot involved and you like what you are doing. My personal favorite hobbies are the collecting of stamps, collecting old coins, playing football, playing tennis table and a lot of other hobbies more and more interesting. It is good for a person to have a hobby because it can develop certain skills which surely will help in the life. Everyone should have a hobby at least and give it the importance it has. Hobbies are great!! What can i advice you.. if you don't have a hobby make one!

I'm not sure if people think I am eccentric or not for loving history. If I watch TV at all, it's usually on the history channel. I have visited a lot of historical sites, and every time, I try to will myself into that era. I would have loved to live "back in the day"! Life was hard then, but there was not as much trouble to get into. Thanks for a great post! P.S. If your ever in the Miami Valley area of Ohio, go check out Johnson's Farm, open on weekends. Labor Day weekend they put on the greatest show!
