What is leaderboard?

Hi. I am still quite new in MyLot. I have some question on LeaderBoard. I realized that under each interest, there's a leaderboard at the bottom of it, for example employee leaderboard, board game leaderboard etc, and they have different level. May I know what does the leaderboard and the level means? is the level the higher the better? Do we get any additional pay if we're in the leaderboard?
