An update

For those of you who showed support and concern, and for those of you who have taken the time to e-mail or pm and ask, I thought I would give you an update on my daughter. She has been interviewed, evaluated and accepted into an outpatient program. She told the counselor that she would like to do this without having to be on medication, if at all possible. She wants to learn to recognize the signs that drove her to the point of hopeless desperation. She also wants to learn ways to cope with her depression, anger , and any other demons she may battle, constructively, and with the aid of chemicals. She has been assured that the program she is enrolled in will help her with all those things. She has gone back to work. Her boss has been quite understanding, and is trying to ease her back into the schedule so that she is not overwhelmed. She, on the other hand, is ready to take on 3 days of double shifts, and get back on her feet. She will go back to school in August and continue her last 7 weeks of schooling, then another 8 weeks of internship, to become a dental assistant. She has taken herself out of a couple of situations that she does not need to be in at this point in her life. And, while she will not desert a friend in need, she will not allow his problems to overrule her own. The things she went through while she was in the hospital scared her, and were painful enough that she has stopped drinking, and will not even take a Tylenol for a headache, for fear of doing more damage to her liver. I believe she is on her way to becoming my beautiful, giving, caring, life is good let's celebrate it by being big goofballs, daughter again. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your concern, and your support over the past 4 or 5 weeks. My faith in humanity has been restored by my mylot friends and by some I don't even know.

First, it's good to see you back. Second, slap my wrist for not emailing you. Third, this is great news and my prayers and positive energy are flowing from my computer to your heart and I do so wish your daughter success. Isn't it great when our kids take their own control back and begin (once again) to travel the adult road we prepared them for? Hugs to you and yours bo!

I shan't slap your wrist! You have been on your own mission, and a very good one at that. I have been keeping up with what you have been doing.*S* I just haven't had the energy to respond to much, lately. Thank you for your energy and well wishes. I appreciate them both so much.

I didn´t know about your daughter but I´m very happy she´s getting out of her problems. What you said made me go back at mylot to read your post 4 weeks ago. And I can´t concieve how a country that says that is the world´s leader can be like that. I live in a relatibly poor country. I am chilean. Three weeks ago I started to cry over anything and my eldest daughter (a psychologist) took the matter in her hands. She took me to a place where, for a very small amount of money (about $3 a month) they give you all the medical attention you need and most of the medications you should take. I am a lot better after these 3 weeks with meds, psychiatricst and spychologist. They won´t leave me on my own until they feel I can handle well my life. There was one of the meds that were not in the program: the psychiatrist searched everywhere to find free samples for me. After reading so many posts by mylotters and learning more about the US, I do wish your government would start to care more about you people and less about the rest of the world. I can´t understand either how the problems Katrina left are still not taken care of. I visited New Orleans before that and itwas one of the most beautiful and meaninful cities in the world.

Thank you, marguicha. It is sad that we, as Americans, can't seem to see that our own people need just as much help as some other countries, isn't it? I do hope that things work out well for you. And, I have to agree with you about New Orleans. It was, and perhaps, will be again, my favorite city in the U.S. It always felt like my home, when I went there.

It's great to hear that things are slowly but surely getting back on track, Diddly. It must be such a huge relief and load off your own shoulders to see some light at the end of the tunnel too. Be proud of yourself and what you stand for, as the path your Daughter is now taking has been influenced greatly by your patience, understanding and support. She has a strong role model that's for sure!

I have just read your discussion now and although I don't know much about what happened to your daughter. I do wish that she gets back on track with her life. I hope she gets to move on and be herself again. Life includes so many trials and people do get through with it. I do hope your daughter the best in life that she ever had. Take care!

I haven't been following for the past 5 weeks, but I ran across this and I am so happy for your daughter. I watched Intervention a few times and would always tear up with the families crying as they read the letter hoping they'll accept the help so I have some idea how emotional and sad it can be. But I am very happy for you guys. CHEERS!!! Celebrate with some chocolate and games!

Hi Bo, You really are a trooper. It is so good of you to let us know how things are going. How long was she in the hospital? Do they have any idea or diagnosis for her? For you to be so close to Irish is a godsend for both of you. I wish that I was close to a good friend as well. My best friends are in California, St. Croix, and Missouri. That is why I am so fortunate to have found Mylot. You and all my good friends here mean so much to me. When any of you suffer in any way, I can't help but to suffer with you. That is why updates are so important. I hope to hear again soon about her progress. Big Hugssss leenie
