Hello Al, We are a joint family of 6 adults and 4 children (2 of them toddlers). Please suggest what capacity of washing machine we should go for and any good models. Basically I am looking for a machine which will satisfy my following needs as well: 1) capacity for the large family 2) tough mechanics (motor etc), since we will have a heavy workload (at least 2/3 times machine would run every day) 3) economical - by this I mean value for money - not too expensive a model nor too cheap and importantly should be a lasting product in spite of the heavy usage Also wanted to check with you for a 100% dryer - is it better to go for a washing machine inbuilt with a 100% dryer or is it better to buy a separate dryer (100% dryer).

You need to buy two machines. One for the dryer and one for the washer. For a washer, i suggest that you go for front load washers. There are a lot of pretty good brands available. Some are - Whirlpool, Electrolux, LG For a dryer anyway, you should pick a gas dryer so as to reduce some electricity bill. You can pick Whirlpool or American Home for your gas dryer. Remember, to get them installed with an experienced professional. You can buy a 7.5kg load for your washer and a 10.5kg load for your dryer. That should be good.

Hi sunstar402, with so many choices I am sure it is hard to pick .. .but I think you should definetely go for seperate machines... if you have the space availiable . . this way if one breaks down at least the other one is not affected, I have always found Maytag to be a great choice and their service should something go wrong is A+. They are always just a phone call away . . and a real person is on the other end with help and guidance. And one more thing . .whatever you do . .do not go for one of those washing machines with a "front Load" the water gets into the front rubber things.. and if you have one more piece to put in after it starts you are out of luck . .. Hope you pick a good one! Lotting to you!

The most important feature you should look at is whether it is energy efficient . Call your local Electric company , sometimes you can get a discount or a rebate if you buy a certain energy efficient model . You need to get one with a large enough capacity to minimize the amount of loads you wash, but not to large that you are wasting valuable water . As far as a dryer , why not put up a clothes line to minimize use of the dryer . You can look on the Good House Keeping website and they have a list of energy efficient appliances .. This is a big purchace so weigh your options efficiently .
