I know its not something that a lot of people think about or even want to try and tackle, but Im trying to live self sufficient for me and my family. I've begun baking my own white and sourdough bread but I need other ideas for things I can do to rely less on money and more on myself. I have a small garden growing in which I'll have tomatoes and cucumbers which i will freeze and/or can (the cucumbers I'll pickle). but I still want other opinions.

Do you have enough land to raise some animals? You could try a few chickens, and maybe a goat for milk if you don't want a cow. If you know how to sew you could make your own clothes. There is a very good homesteading magazine called Countryside that has a lot of ideas for homesteaders and people who just want to be more self sufficient. I'm not sure if they have a website, but you could do a search.

At the moment I have room for only chickens and soon I will be getting some, I think I'm going to end up with too many eggs though lol. And when it comes to sewing, I'm learning. I can make my daughter clothes, which I do often, but i dont think its fair that patterns cost so much. shouldnt it cost less because you have to do it yourself?
