I just wanted to share with everyone and get your thoughts on this matter. I have been relatively active throughout my entire pregnancy. For the past 3 months I have been trying to either go on a daily walk, if not twice a day or to get to the gym and get on the elliptical for 30 minutes. Anyways, I've really been slacking and haven't gone on my walks in about 3 weeks ( I know Im terrible ). Well, I just got back from my walk with my husband and I feel great! I am very glad I went, however my hands and feet have swollen and kind of hurt?!?! Is this a normal side effect of walking in hot weather when pregnant? I am currently 32 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I don't usually experience this swelling but dear lord! I have today!... What are your thoughts on this? * the swelling that is. Are you proud of me for starting to be active again or do you think it would be in my best interest to NOT walk? Exercise is great, especially for pregnant women, I just don't want to over do it this far along in my pregnancy, you know? I also take a 32oz bottle of water and ice with me when I go on my walk and try to drink atleast half of it, if not all by the time I get home. Anywhoo.. What are your thoughts? Thanks All for listening!

I am 31 weeks pregnant and have a one yeaqr old to RUN after! Yes I am very swollen by the end of the day! We go for 2 walks a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon. We normally have a picnic or go to the park and just run around playing ball or something. Swelling is normal its caused by water retention. Its not easy in this weather to be pregnant 2 years in a row for me.. Next year Im going to have a realy cool summer! If the swelling gets to bad tho call your midwife as it could be pre-eclampsia.

Thanks, I don't feel that it's pre-eclampsia. Mainly due to the fact that it doesn't occur all of the time, only when I go walking. An the majority of the swelling is in my hands. After more thought I started realizing that it's probably due to the fact that I let my hands dangle while on my walk, and as for my legs, well that itself is common among pregnant women, Right? I mean it goes away after I sit down and cool off. So it's nothing to worry about, Right? Thanks for the responses

Hmm, the advice I have been finding is recommending around 20 minutes a day for most women. If you were very active before getting pregnant, I'm sure you can add a little bit to that. I'm sure the swelling is connected to the walking, as my unpregnant self swells after walking a lot. I've been reading that its often connected to electrolyte levels. Also, how much do you drink before you walk? Drinking before you walk is very important for your muscles. Drinking while you walk is still a good idea for other reasons, but not as effective in other ways. I am proud of you for keeping active, but I would check with the doctor just to be sure, or maybe turn down the time/intensity a bit and see if that changes anything.

Walking is great for you, this will also keep your hips limber for the delivery date. My niece was here for her pregnancy and she didn't like it when I told her to just walk or do something each day. Well, from the time her water broke to the time she delivered was like only 4 hours max. I believe walking helps you ahead of time for labor. As far as the swelling goes, it could be as simple as something you ate, or because of the baby moving could be something was blocked off for a bit which can happen. Once the baby moves it goes away. Salt intake can be a problem for some, not all. Even what you eat the last trimester can cause problems when prior did not. I hope all is going well for you and yours.. hugsss
