getting pregnant for free house and money

June 30, 2009 1:40pm CST
I live near a council estate and a lot of its population are made up of teenage mums, i think its really unfair how they get a free house, for getting pregnant accidently, tough deal with it, married couples who maybe not ready for a child finanically i'm sure don't get such help. I've even heard girls saying i dont need qualification because if i get pregnant i can get a house off the council, another girl who is a friend of friend, says on her facebook profile that she is quite happy having kids and has no intention of ever working. I really hope some sort of authority sees that, and makes her work, she is 22, she is wasting her life doing nothing sitting in her council house that she didn't have to work for and spend our money on designer stuff, funny that how young teen mums on benefits can afford new bags.

It's sad how some folks just have no desire to contribute to society unless they consider popping out babies a contribution. I live in the Southern part of the US and just moved down here recently, I am appalled at how many teenage moms there are. Like being 14 means it's time for unwed mom's to start sponging off us taxpayers. It's shameful that there is little done to dissuade them from making such choices when they are just children themselves. And most of them come from broken homes or dadless homes so they continue the cycle of poverty. Tho like you said, they can afford designer items when many of us can't. My sisters discussed with their husbands how many children to have so that they could plan a financially healthy lifestyle and pay for their college. And yet some girls just seem to think that having another baby means more aid for them which sadly it does. Our welfare system is full of scammers and they sure learn early. I have always worked for a living and had my first job at 13 and it wasn't having a baby so I could live on my own...

We don't have that kind of benefits here in the Philippines. Teenage pregnancies is also a social problem here. Abortion is the next result of this pregnancies. Now a days many teenager engaging in a relationship that resulted in unwanted pregnancies. I think that's why they live comfortably because the government supported them financially even if they are not legible to have that. In my opinion early pregnancies should not be tolerated and teach the teenagers to have responsibility in life in raising their kids without the support from the government. They going to depend on it forever.

i do agree with you and would hate the stigma attached to 'living off the council' but i really could do with some help...im pregnant and rent a room in a horrible smelly house and to prove how horrible it is i was reciently taken to hospital because there is no way i can fight the battle to keep the house clean when you have to share the kitchen and fridge with people with NO hygeine. (i dont need to tell other mums how scared i was of loosing my baby) i have got a job which doesnt pay enough to pay rent on a house or flat of my own its just a in a shop but is all i can do at the moment as no one will employ a pregnant girl. if i could just get my foot on the property ladder, just a toe even, i know i could make a go off opening my own crech, iv lots of experience and done courses and ONLY need a 'home' to get checked over by the cache to be able to earn money. i dont want to leach off the council but all that help that those teenage mums get who dont want to work and spend their beniits on new bags, it just makes me want to scream its so unfair! if i had a little help i could sort myself out and start paying back the council! has anyone got any ideas?? where are these girls going to get thses free houses? because im getting doors shut in my face everywhere i go. hope this makes sence i just dont know what else to do.

I know exactly what yu are talking about, because I real estate in New York and am approached daily by people on city programs who are also on welfare, pulling up to my office in a range rover with a gucci purse. They are doing it everywhere, someone needs to investigate.

Every countries worldwide has this problem with misguided youths. What you can do is try to get some influential persons in the community to give advice to these persons. Tax payers has to stand these bills and even though they receive it free it is not indeed free because it is being brought by some one else. Some persons have lack of self esteem and if this girl is indeed your friend I would advice you to sit her down and let her know that this is not about her anymore but her kids who want to be well fed and have a security to look towards. Sometimes in our misguided state we forget all about the children who will be hurt in the decisions that we made. All the best.

well,it does sound quite ridiculous to me. in this world, there is no dearth of people exploiting any flaws in the law or making use of any loose ends. i just hope that someone puts up some criteria for allocation of houses in this case.

THIS IS CRAZY WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TOO? These young girl want to lay on there back to have a baby so that they dont have to work talk about lazy!!!! And since they have this attitude how are they going to raise that child to be a adult who can function like normal people? Who is going to be there to teach that child responsibility, Independence. There total thought process is disgusting and this is where our tax dollars are going? I'd think i rather give it all the inmates in jail who are trying to better there self, well it seems like with is attitude these girls have they children just might end up in jail.

Hello, I started off with looking at your title and said I have to respond. I so agree with you. We were live there is a goverment housing called The Estates. The way this place works is that you have to fall within the guidelines and that includes usually have a child. Unless you are a married couple just wanting to start a family or have room mate wnd not making much or no money at all. Here I have seen families get into there and then after a couple months of living there they quite their jobs and get cash assitance just because they don't want to work. Not only that but if you don't have a job and you live there the estates people pay you government checks in the amount of 100.00 a month to pay your electric and gas. Which those 2 there runs about 40.00 a month at these buildings. I understand how fraustrating it is. We working people have to work hard to rent our places or even keep the morgage up to date. We don't get it easy so why should they. Teens or not they should have to get their butts out there and get a job like the rest of us. Why should we have to pay for their families when we are struggling to keeps ours together. I just hope that someday that the guidlines will be even harder for young people and teens to get this kind of help. I have to give you a big time thumbs up for a great discussion. A++++ to you on this very well good discussion. Happy Mylotting
