Are water purifiers really water "purifiers"?

As drinking water pollution is becoming rampant, many people are resigning to burn their pockets and buy a water purifier.Regularly we see advertisements where the purifier is said to have passed "several tests of purity" and using several stages of purification.I don't know if these claims are real. But,the consumers like me have no other alternative but to buy them. How much of this "purification" is genuine? Is it that consumers are being a little paranoid of these products? Throw a light on this...

I believe the safest thing to do is boil water. I drink my water from the tap and I do believe it has a good taste, it looks clear and well, if it ever changed I would boil it. I took this from Downey's website (they had a Boil water notice) Q.What steps do I take to boil the water? A.Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water and is the preferred method to ensure that the water is safe to drink. It is from downeyca dot org boilwater

Boiling is a traditional practice and one of the safest. But,I read there is a new bacterium which actually survives and regenerates after boiling.Although its new discovery, its always better to be careful.

If it is new I am not sure how a purifier will do with it. I would do a research but I will still advice in the meantime to boil and be a little safer while you search for the water purifier.
