Flat Tax

With all of the political confusion right now, there have been many times when raising taxes has been prominent. When asking avid political participants, there is rarely a straight-forward response to the proposal of a flat tax. What would be the pros/cons of a flat tax -where everyone gave a set percentage of their income? There could still be benefits to those 'going green',donating to charity, etc, but the rest would be a flat tax. Any thoughts?
