What are the stars next to your mylot username for?

I noticed that some people have stars next to their name with some number on it. I also see people having different color of stars. What does that mean? Can someone explain this to me, thanks.

When the number next to your name is 100 or more you will get your star. The different colors and numbers of the star indicate the ranking your discussions and posts have received from the other members of mylot that have read them.
