I have a Toshiba L300 Laptop,I wangt XP on it instead of Vista, so i tried a lot of different XP CD's on the syestem and none of them boot.So i removed the drive and put it on my Home PC(LEnovo PC),and i loaded the XP onto it,and put it back and still no boot. I don't understand where the failures occur...Can you help me solve this problem?

From Neo (Anonymous User) I had the same problem. I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 that came with Vista preinstalled. It crashed constantly so I tried to install XP but as you already know, it would say that it couldn't find a hard drive. What you have to do is power on the Laptop and then press F2 to get into the BIOS menu. Then scroll down to the SATA option and change it from ACHI to Compatibility then exit saving your changes (F10) and then reboot your Laptop from the XP Operating System disk. It will now let you install Windows XP or any other Operating System. I too have been searching for answers on various sites and forums and none of the suggestions (including downloading XP drivers) worked. This definitely works (at least for the Toshiba L300 Laptop any way). Now most of the laptops are released installed with vista only and they are disabling some option ,so that we can not install some other OS. Your might be of the same type and only the person who is familiar with changing these settings can do install other OS. If we try to make changes, after few, we may not able to even boot the existing vista and this has happened to two of my friends recently. We tried to install XP, by changing the configuration ourselves. But as we don't know much about the configuration, the entire thing went wrong and the laptops stopped responding to any operation. Finally we had to approach the company. Better contact the online customer support with your serial number and product number and they will help you.

i think your pc is configured to be for vista so i think you need to install some linux and then install the xp edition what happens is that linux will remove the boot mem and when you install the xp the linux mem will be removed

Hi When you get to the point that you can install XP, please make sure you have all the XP Drivers for you Laptop before continuing, otherwise you might sit with Hardware that you struggle to get running because of Driver issues. Regards Gerrit
