Is the 4 lands North America??

In all of the Shannara series, does the 4 lands and surrounding continents represent North America post nuclear war? It makes more sense as you keep reading into the series. I haven't read the genesis books so maybe its in there and I don't know yet, but it seems to fit. Anyone else know?
